Job description
ROLE PURPOSE
- Key point of contact for the client, designer, and stakeholders on Environmental issues for the HPC Marine Works.
- To provide support and advice to operational teams on all aspects of environmental management, developing environmental documentation, meeting legal and company standards, contractrequirements and helping deliver a culture of continual improvement.
- Understand and work with Client to ensure contract environmental requirements are complied with.
- Support on site mitigation and sustainability of works.
- Overseeing the work of the Environmental team.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Identifies environmental opportunities and financial / programme / reputational risks to the project.
- Fully understands the legal and Client requirements / conditions of contract, as they relate to environmental sustainability issues and advises the project teams on these.
- Production of Environmental Documentation and Deliverables e.g., Construction Environmental Management Plan, aspects, and impacts register
- Helps develop robust and comprehensive mitigation measures to deal with environmental risks, working collaboratively with the whole project team on the following:
- Ecology
- Pollution Control
- Water environment
- Noise and Vibration
- Air Quality
- Climate Change and Carbon
- Resource sourcing and efficiency
- Waste Management
- Consents / permits / licensing
- Provides effective leadership to a team of Environmental & Sustainability professionals in a way that facilitates learning and supports the development of both the individual and wider environmental performance.
- Ensures effective implementation and reporting of monitoring regime and audit programme.
- Collaborates with client, designer and third parties.
- Works to share best practice within the project and wider business.
- Leads a positive environmental culture on the section and works to transform behaviours where required.
- Liaise with client, regulatory bodies, and subcontractors on matters of environmental management and sustainability.
- Chairing environmental meetings, and acting as project environmental representative and delegated authority of HSE manager where required e.g., meetings, business forums etc.
- Review of method statements and associated documents to ensure environmental compliance.
ROLE PROFILE
- Provide on-site advice to operations and design teams on environmental management, compliance, and project specific mitigation measures.
- Complete audits and inspections, ensuring implementation of the project environmental management systems on project sites.
- Investigate environmental incidents and support the business to implement controls to prevent repeat occurrence.
- Be aware of changes to standards and legislation and where applicable recommend changes to systems and processes.
- Deliver environmental training, promoting development of staff.
- Produce internal and external reports as required, e.g., case studies, environmental performance.
- Support and conduct assurance activities including facilitating external audits.
- Assist in the development of key performance indicators and management reports.
- Ensure compliance with licences / permits / consents.
- Other duties as required.
PERSONAL QUALITIES AND EXPERIENCE
Essential:
- Member of an environmental professional body
- A sound understanding of environmental legislation, impact mitigation and dealing with statutory authorities.
- Good experience of managing a variety of environmental risks and understanding their impacts in terms of time costs and reputation.
- Understanding of the benefits of working collaboratively to obtain the best outcome for the project.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills. Able to effectively communicate environmental risks and controls to many different job roles and levels of environmental awareness.
- Determination to see tasks through to completion, with excellent planning and organisation skills.
- Good commercial awareness
- Literate in MS Office
- Full UK driver's licence Experience working under a marine licence or other licences / permits / consents.
Desirable:
- Experience of co-ordinating the work of others and overseeing a team
- Experience of managing environmental risks associated with concreting works.
